Most of the wine clubs that Kevin and I belong to are the kind that deliver the wine to you. But with Lynfred, the winery is so close by we decided to pick up in person.

So a couple of days ago, Kevin and I drove out to pick up our bottles.

While we were there, we decided to taste the Spring releases.

The 2007 Vidal Blanc was lovely with a sharp bite of pineapple and minerality which smelling of peaches and citrus. The 2006 Riesling was nicely balanced and tasted of honey and tropical fruits with an almost floral nose. It would be perfect with spicy food in particular Thai. The rose was my favorite. The smell was full of ripe and juicy strawberries. The color a rich rose and was off-dry and is perfect. PERFECT for a warm summer afternoon. At least in my opinion. The 2006 Zinfandel was full and rich with a aroma of coffee and leather. It would be perfect with a nice steak dinner. An occasion kind of meal. The last kind of wine we tried was a rhubarb wine. Rhubarb is usually very bitter unless mixed with sugar or sweeter fruit like strawberries. This wine maintained the tartness and flavor of the fruit but was sweet and smooth.

Naturally, I brought home more than my wine club bottles. But with wines like these, how could I not?

There’s nothing like Rhubarb on a summer day! Thanks for the post!
