The Empire State of the South
Viticulture was brought to Georgia with the original English settlers who followed James Oglethorpe about the Anne which landed February 12, 1733 at what is now Savannah. Though the climate was not kind to the Vitis vinifera brought from Europe, locals made wine with the local Muscadine grapes.
